RE: Propane tank

On standard 4BW cylinders, the original test is good for 12 years, then the cylinder must be retested every 5 years there after. I am not sure about the requirements for testing horizontal cylinders. The test is a submerged expansion test where the cylinder is completely submerged in a water tank and pressured up with air. The amount of water that rises in the water tank determines if the tank passes or not. This is not a hydro test. For a hydro test, the cylinder is filled with water and pressured up to test pressure, then the pressure is monitored for a period of time. If the pressure remains the same over the period of time, then the cylinder passes the test. Hydro testing is not preferred because then the cylinder must be completely dried before it can be placed back in service. Even after drying, there is some rust build up in the cylinder that can leed to odor fade to the ethyl mercaptan used to make the LP gas smell. This odor fade can be very dangerous, so to avoid this, testers use the displacement test.

RE: vu qube

I have one and have used it twice now. It must have a very clear view of the sky in the direction of the satelite or it will not get a signal. It has a smaller dish inside and the signal strength is less due to this. I would recommend that you stick with a regular dish and a tripod and get a view finder to help with satelite aquisition. You will be money in the bank and have alot stronger signal strength.

RE: 2008-09 Rockwood Ultra Light Signature question

The cable connection on the outside is a continuous RG6 cable to the port under the LCD where the antennae booster is at. It does not go through the booster. There is no good way to sit a sat receiver on the entertainment center. I have not had time to try and figure out a way to do it. At the present time I just balance it at an angle on the little shelf below the LCD on the left side sticking out. Maybe someone has built a way to mount one.

RE: Cougar XLite 29bhs vs. Rockwood Ultra Light Sign 8317ss

We have had an 8317ss since march of this year. So far my biggest gripe/complaint is that the bathroom is totally inaccessible while the slide is in and only the smallest of children can make it into the bunk area.

RE: Is This Legal In ANY State??

Most states that do allow double towing have an overall length limit of either 65 feet or 70 feet, and a maximum length limit of each trailer of 28 feet. Some states require that the first towed trailer must be a kingpin connection and others allow ball and coupler. The laws are all over the map depending on where you are on the "MAP".

RE: Big Family TT Dilema

Don't rush anything yet. You have about 18 months before the twins will be big enough to worry about there sleeping space. By then you can decide on which route you want to go. The Excusion is a great tow vehicle but a E series van is too and will be more available than the X.

RE: Twin Honda question

I do not use the eco mode when I am running the AC. I haven't noticed any drop in power while the AC cycles, but that is not to say it is not there.

RE: Honda EU2000 auxiliary gas tank

I bought two new fuel caps from local Honda dealer. Took the vent valve out. Took an 1/8th inch NPT pipe tap and tapped the vent valve opening to cut threads in it. I used a 1/8th inch NPT by 1/4 inch tubing fitting and screwed it into the new threads in the fuel cap. I used some 1/4 inch poly vinyl tubing and place over a short piece of 1/4 inch stainless tubing that was seated in the tubing fitting. The other end of the vinyl tubing goes to a stinger of 1/4 inch stainless tubing about 30 inches long that I put in the fuel can to provide the fuel.

RE: Recieving Dish Network Signal in Canada

It would be nice to see the beam patterns for the Directv sats too.

RE: wood boreing bees

I have found that using a garden sprayer with one tablespoon of "Demon WP" mixed to one gallon of water and lightly sprayed on the exposed wood once every three months keeps them away. It also keeps the spiders away as well.

First Long trip and some observations about the trip.

Let me start by listing our rig: 2006 Ford Super-Duty F-250 CC 6.0 Diesel 3.73 Gears. 2007 Rockwood 8317 We left Alexandria Louisiana on Thursday the 5th of June and traveled to Cherry Hill Park in College Park, Maryland. We spent the week looking at all the things that make this country such a great place. We arrived back home on Saturday, the 14th of June. In our travels we covered 2401 miles. We bought 214 gallons of diesel fuel at a total cost of $1000.28. This gave an average economy of 11.22 MPG. Overall it was a great trip. With all the concerns over the prices of fuel, I compared our trip to see what the additional cost was if the fuel would have only cost, say, $3 a gallon. That difference was $358.32. I think it was worth the roughly $360 to the see the amazement in my 10 year old daughters eyes as she come to realize what this great nation is built upon. I truly believe that she will be marked by this trip for the rest of her life.

RE: A Real Puzzler and Cell Signal Question for the Experts

Just because you have a strong signal from the booster, does not mean that you can complete a call. There is a time differential between when the signal is sent and recieved back by the tower. If there is too much lag in this timing, the call will not be allowed to complete. As you get closer to the tower, this time lag gets shorter, and the call can then be completed.

RE: Concertone TV

The flat screen Concertone is actually only a flat panel monitor. It does not have a TV tuner built in. Any flat screen LCD with a S Video input will work. I plan on adding a regular TV with a built in digital tuner when mine goes bad. Carl My 2007 model Rockwood manufacture date of 11-15-2006, has a Concertone TV. It has a built in tuner, video component input, VGA input, sound in and out. I found that the built in tuner was stronger and gives a better picture than the tuner in the concertone radio/dvd/surround unit.

RE: Home built Paralell Kit for Honda generators???

I thought the green wire connection was for a common reference point for the voltage controllers on the two units to work in harmony.

RE: Connect Aux Input on Factory Ford Radio

There are several different ones for the same year. It sounds like you got the wrong one. They are pretty specific on the type. It's not like, close enough will work. It might only be one part number off but you'll be SOL if you got the wrong one. I found it best to call the company and talk to them before just ordering. This way you will get the correct adapter and no headache. The problem is that the port on the back of the radio is there, but the pins in the port are missing on some of the 2004 radios. Mine happened to be one of the ones that the pins are missing on, so without any connection, there was no way for it to work. Some of the 2004 model radios have all the pins for the adapter to work.

RE: Connect Aux Input on Factory Ford Radio

The PIE adapters will work with some radios, but not all. The 2004 Ford Radios are hit or miss. There was a design change and the CD changer port on the back of the radio does not work. I have a 2004 F-250 with the CD/Tape radio and the PIE adapter would not work. My wife has a 2006 Ford CD radio and the PIE adapter works on her radio.

RE: Propane contaminated with oil?

Ethyl Mercaptan is what is added to LPG in order to make it smell for the safety of anyone around it in case a leak were to happen, It is a colorless liquid that evaporates at the same rate as isopropyl alcohol. If there is a very large amount of ethyl mercaptan in the LPG, enough to remain in liquid form, it will attack any butyl rubber and slowly dissolve the rubber leaving a black paste. The paste will be very thick and sticky, not like oil. Oil is not added to the inside of a propane storage tank to prevent corrosion. There is no need as the propane displaces all the oxygen inside the tank, and without oxygen, the metal cannot oxidize into rust. I would be willing to bet that no one has ever seen a propane tank fail from inside corrosion. They always fail from outside corrosion. The most likely point of contamination, if it is in fact oil, is from a leaking seal in the pump used on the transport truck that transported the propane from the Stripping plant to the end distributor.
